Have you heard this before, “Whenever I start dating someone I gain weight” or “Once you’re married you always gain weight, you are comfortable with one another now” Why is this? You eat out more, you go to the movies (sitting more), and you let your regular gym program fall by the wayside. But this doesn’t have to be the case! Instead, why not try out some of these fun and calorie blasting activities that are sure to help generate a spark! Go apple picking Take a bike ride Take a dance lesson Play laser tag (or paintball) Go hiking Pick pumpkins and paint them Cook a meal together Try out a new exercise class (yoga? Kickboxing?) It seems to be coming up a lot. My clients are telling me that no matter how much they eat, they can’t seem to stay full for very long! My first response to them is: “In the summer, we tend to crave lighter foods and do not need as much to keep us satisfied. But the summer has come to an end and we are heading into the colder months. Our bodies are designed to want to increase their calorie intake so that we are prepared for ‘hibernation’ in the winter” Although, this ‘need’ to store extra calories in the winter is not necessary anymore; our bodies do not know the difference. You will find that your cravings are now for the heartier meals like pasta...

Well, I have a little something different that I wanted to share with you and I just couldn’t wait! Last week I was approached by the owner of Fitness Rising, Jack Antonowicz, to shoot some pictures for an Overhead Flexibility Workout. Of course, I was really excited because Fitness Rising is an amazing and very highly respected website that is based out of Rhode Island. I am always happy when I get to coordinate with local businesses! As a follow up to last week’s article about the Sugar Addiction, I decided to put together today’s post with some great ways to help get rid of the sugar for good! Here are a few tips that you can use if you are struggling to eliminate sugar from your diet. Stop Buying It. If you don’t keep it in your house or office you will be forced to reach for healthier options such as vegetables, lean proteins, healthy fats and low sugar fruit. Plan Ahead.   As most of us know, one of the hardest habits to kick when it comes to cleaning up our nutrition is our addiction to sugar. Sugar is in almost everything; candy, cookies, French fries, ketchup, bread, etc. When combined with salt (i.e, French fries) it creates one of the most addictive combinations. I will be honest, white chocolate covered pretzels (sugar and salt) are my arch nemesis. Once I start eating them I JUST CAN’T STOP!! New research is showing now that sugar does not only make us fat, but it also makes us sick! Recent studies have shown a strong correlation between sugar and cardiovascular disease (heart attacks, stroke, and artery disease). It is also a risk factor for type 2 diabetes, liver cirrhosis and...

It is very common for me to hear a client say that their energy is low. But this ‘energy’ is not always just physical. Many times it is mental, emotional or even spiritual. In the article I discussed how keeping your mental, emotional, spiritual and physical health fed will make your life more fulfilling. As a follow up to that article, today we are going to talk about a few ways in which you can keep these areas ENERGIZED ALL DAY! Physical Energy In order to keep yourself physically energized: Get Plenty Of Sleep. Even short changing your sleep by 30 minutes can have an impact. Eat Nutrient Dense...

As most of my long time readers know, I use coconut oil quite often in my recipes. Lately, I have been receiving quite a few emails about this oil and whether it is ‘healthy’ or not. In the past, this food has had a bad reputation for being full of unhealthy saturated fat. However, coconut oil is in fact considered a SuperFood. Yes, it IS a saturated fat, but these fats are made up of  MCT (Medium Chain Triglycerides), which are metabolized differently. They are easily absorbed by the body, help reduce body fat and improve insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance. On top of all of that: 1)      Coconut oil also helps lower total cholesterol and LDL (bad) cholesterol, while increasing HDL (good) cholesterol. 2)      MCT’s in...
